What is Computer Hardware & Software? Types of Software

Computer Software and Hardware

Software:

Software is set of instructions that tells the computer what to do and how to do. A computer can not perform any task by itself, so program or software is simply instructions for computer to perform some specific task in a specific way. We can not touch and see software running in a computer, but we can see it's impact on computer screen.Computer software refers to a set of instructions or programs that control the operations of a computer system. It includes all the programs, data, and files that are necessary for the computer to perform specific tasks.

Types of Computer Software:

System software is the software that controls the basic functions of a computer system. Examples of system software include the operating system, device drivers, and utility programs. These programs provide an interface between the computer hardware and the user, enabling the computer to perform various tasks.

Application software, on the other hand, refers to software that is designed for specific tasks or applications. Examples of application software include word processors, spreadsheets, and video editing programs. Application software is used to perform tasks that are specific to a user's needs and requirements.

Computer software is essential to the functioning of modern-day computers, and the development of new software is a constantly evolving field. Software developers use a variety of programming languages and tools to create software that meets the needs of users and organizations. The software industry is a vital part of the technology sector, providing tools and solutions that enable businesses and individuals to be more productive and efficient. MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, Notepad, Inpage and Coreldraw are a few examples of software.

Computer Hardware:

Hardware is physical parts of a computer. We can touch and see a computer hardware. Mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor and printers etc are examples of computer hardware.
Computer hardware refers to the physical components of a computer system, including the central processing unit (CPU), motherboard, memory, storage devices, input/output devices, and peripheral devices. The CPU is the "brain" of the computer and performs most of the processing tasks, while the motherboard connects all the other components together. Memory provides temporary storage for data and programs, while storage devices provide permanent storage for files and documents. Input/output devices include keyboards, mice, monitors, and printers, which allow users to interact with the computer. Peripheral devices such as scanners, cameras, and external hard drives can also be connected to a computer to expand its functionality. Understanding computer hardware is important for troubleshooting issues and upgrading components to improve performance.

Difference Between Software & Hardware:

  1. Software is set of instructions for computer & hardware are physical parts of computer.
  2. Software can not run without hardware & hardware can not perform without any program.
  3. Software can not be touched and seen & hardware can be touched and seen.
  4. Program is debugged for any errors & hardware is repaired.
  5. Software is reinstalled if problem goes on & hardware is replaced for solving that problem.
